Privacy
This page explains how Crete Nearby handles information when you use the service.
The public part of Crete Nearby can be used without creating an account or signing in.
Using Crete Nearby without an account
You can use the public part of Crete Nearby without creating a user account.
Ordinary visitors are not asked to provide a name, email address or password.
Location, starting point and distances
You can choose a town, village or saved base as the starting point for distance calculations.
You can also choose to use your current device location. Your browser will ask for permission before the location is made available to Crete Nearby.
When current location is used, the coordinates are used to calculate and sort straight-line distances to places listed in the service.
The coordinates are included in the address of the results page. They may therefore appear in your browser history and in necessary technical server logs.
Crete Nearby does not continuously track your location or follow your movements.
Distances are approximate straight-line distances and are not driving distances.
Google Maps and external links
Some links in Crete Nearby open Google Maps or other external websites.
When you open an external link, the external service may process information according to its own privacy policy and settings.
Google Maps may use your current location when creating a route if location access is available and permitted on your device.
Crete Nearby sends the destination coordinates to Google Maps but does not receive or store your route or movements.
Cookies and local storage
Crete Nearby may use a necessary session cookie for technical operation and security.
The session cookie is not used for advertising, profiling or tracking visitors across websites.
When you select My base, the name and identifier of the selected place are stored locally in your browser.
My base remains available on the same browser and device until you choose another base or remove the browser data.
The locally stored base is not used for advertising, profiling or tracking across websites.
Administrator accounts and security
Administrator accounts are used only to manage the content and operation of Crete Nearby.
For these accounts, the system may store an email address, user role, access status, account timestamps and the time of the latest sign-in.
Passwords are not stored as readable text. The system stores a password hash used to verify the password during sign-in.
Information about failed sign-in attempts, password resets and necessary email events may be stored for security, troubleshooting and account support.
Your rights and contact
If you have questions about privacy or believe that information about you has been processed incorrectly, you can contact the operator of Crete Nearby.
Administrators may request access to, correction of or deletion of personal information connected to their administrator account, subject to applicable legal and security requirements.
Contact details are available through Kallikratis.no.
